Believe it or not, carbon dioxide is used to save lives everyday. It is put in fire extinguishers in order to put out fires. Since carbon dioxide is heavier than air, it sort of works like a blanket to the fire when it is released. It surrounds the fire, disabling it from getting oxygen to spread.
Another manner humans use carbon oxygen is to make sodas fizzle. Have you ever shook a soda and then have it explode on you when opened? That is because the carbon dioxide is being stirred up and released.
When CO2 is in its solid form (dry ice) it is used to make a foggy environment for plays, movies, and any dramatic scenario.
Recently, scientists at Sandia National Laboratories in Los Alamos, New Mexico have figured out a way to recycle CO2 in order to make gasoline, or electricity. They are doing in this to make our country a carbon-neutral energy system.
Plants and animals make a huge use of carbon dioxide. Green plants make CO2 into oxygen and glucose which is called photosynthesis. Animals as well as plants use CO2 to combine it with their food compounds in order to give off energy for growth which is called respiration process.
